2015-August-04 USA, Colorado, Denver: 33 Years – What?

After just over 30 hours from San Francisco on the Greyhound bus (actually 3 buses) we reached Denver where we have been visiting Lindsay and Olaf who moved here from South Africa.   More on our Greyhound experiences in a later blog we promise.

It has been great catching up on their lives and getting to know the kids, Kyle and Megan.  

We have been fortunate enough to spend time with them as they are on school holidays – we even got to watch Kyle doing some speed skating practice.

Lins and Jean have spent many hours out on the veranda reminiscing over a glass or 3 of wine about school days, ESSA (explorers’ society of South Africa), Ballroom and other fun times in their 20’s.  They were shocked to work out that they have known each other for 33 years now!

Olaf drove us around the mountains surrounding Denver.  Such beautiful countryside less than an hour away!

Other outings around Denver have included a visit to a popup market near the city which has a South African foodstall (Jozi’s Shebeen).  Lindsay made some melkterts for them to sell and we indulged in some Saffer fare while we were there.

We also took a walk around the downtown area of Denver CBD and visited the newly revamped Union Station.

Another day we took a drive to the local Red Rock Amphitheatre which was fun to walk around.

And so, after hugs all round – including the 2 new kitten arrivals, we said goodbye to the Wyberneits and we are heading down to Colorado Springs and Albuquerque where we will be trying couch surfing for the first time ever……
