Now we are back in Sydney (can you
believe it’s already been 4 months!) we don’t have as much going on to write
about. Last weekend however we tried something new and thought it was worth a
few lines.
We know we will be heading off
again next year (Walbok Walkabout Phase 2) so whilst we are in Australia we
want to make sure we spend time with our friends here.
A few weeks ago we caught up with a
friend of ours who is very into his food (Hi Neil if you are reading). He told us about a new website called
“Welcome Over”.
The website provides an opportunity
to host a dinner (or lunch or whatever) at your home and guests can read about
what you are preparing and then check in to attend. Prices range from $10 to
around $65 per head and hosts range from people wanting to share the
awesomeness of their home country’s cuisine to budding amateur chefs hooking on
to the whole Master Chef and My Kitchen Rules phenomenon.
Last weekend when we went to
Brisbane to catch up with friends, we decided to give it a go. We asked the
couple we were staying with (Maree & David) if they were keen and they said
“sounds great”. So . . . on Saturday we attended Brisbane’s inaugural
Welcome Over event - a Burger Extravaganza hosted by Justin in Kangaroo Point.
Justin is originally from Canada
but has lived in Australia for three years and makes a great burger. About a
dozen people turned up and we had an outstanding evening. The food was lovely
and it was a lot of fun meeting the other guests and swapping stories about our
respective lives.
So for those of you living in
Australia we would strongly recommend looking at the website and either
attending or hosting an event. Based on our experience it will be a lot
of fun, you’ll meet some interesting people and you’ll eat well! What else
could you ask for?

Sounds good, though I won't be cooking. There are some great vegetarian cooks but not as many restaurants so I'll be on the look out for a great nut cutlet😎
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! What a great way to meet other cool locals. Can;t wat to see you guys up here again next year, have fun in the meantime – Dominique and Andrewxx
